Christmas Misconceptions

Don't get Jesus confused with santa
nor the manger with the tree
for one is clothed in tinsel
the other in majesty.

Don't let christmas crowd out hist'ry
nor festivities the truth
of God's eternal love for us
for Jesus is the proof.

Don't forget the perfect gift of all
amid the silly season
angels still in heaven sing
and Jesus is the reason.

Don't teach your children fabled tales
yet neglect the old, old story
santa lives in fiction but
Jesus reigns in glory!

Don't get Jesus confused with santa
nor the manger with the tree
for one is clothed in tinsel
the other in majesty.

above and beyond

above the clouds the sky in brilliance beams
the blue of constancy;
some days the clouds obscure the proof
yet other days proclaim the truth
of Gods supremacy.

beyond our strife the world in beauty shows
the evidence of love;
and though the sight may be concealed
in time the truth always reveals
the heart of God above.

within the very DNA of man
dwells images of God;
most times resemblances are lost
yet still He felt us worth the cost
of His eternal plan.

outside the realms of natural sight and sound
God sings to us His grace;
and once we catch His tender voice
and harmonise, praise and rejoice
His realm becomes our place.

Don't just sit there!

compromise, the centre line -
a dangerous place to be,
while other pass us left and right
the only problem in our sight -
another 'confusee'.

it seems to me a pointless act -
it makes so little sense,
while others choose then make their stand
there dwells within a no mans land,
a sitter on his fence.

pull your head out of the sand -
elude the tedium,
stand for the right, or left, or green
and realise there's never been
a happy medium!

Slime Blue

it's a swine of a thing - this flu;
it's hogging all the lime light
and we're making a pigs ear
of containing it;
it's victims are littered all over the globe -
unless, of course, we're being told
porkies and the media are
hamming it up in an effort
to make a silk scoop out of a sows ear!
there's snout to do but believe what's
being penned!

What about winter then?

If winter were a person
he'd be contemptuous and cross,
like a man who isn't feeling well
and doesn't give a toss!

Consider winter as a song,
cacophonous and cruel -
like a volatile music score
lacking discipline and rule.

Think of winter as a colour,
clearly phosphorus yet dark -
like a messy, unwashed palette
non defining in it's mark.

What of winter as a nutrient,
acrid, jellified and cold -
like a vegetarian ice cream
unpalatable, but bold.

But winter is a season
unique in every way -
a captivating thumb print
of the Master on display.

Nell La Belle

Ellen Nora Warner 27.5.1922 - 9.5.2009

She had sparkle she had style
with an ever ready smile,
and energy with bias toward fun,
she loved to dance she loved to sing,
she had rhythm she had zing,
she was a character, I have to say, our mum.

She was a caring, giving friend,
she was strong until the end,
with a spirit that kept us up to par,
she was a blue print for our life,
loved her role as mum and wife,
and the joy of being cherished as Grandma.

So, who can tell the worth
of the one who gave us birth -
who went without to ensure we did okay?
only the One who made her so,
and to God our thanks will flow
for blessing us in such a special way.

Don't Look!

It was an absent minded glance
that's all, a one in a million chance -
a call - to live, to laugh, to dance,
to fall, in love - with just one glance.

It was a deliberate second look
that led, the heart by hunger took
the head, to places long forsook -

unfed, to love - with a second look.

It was an active long term view
that saw, the start of something new
and more, the commitment that it drew
was core, to love - with a long term view.
