Summer's a'comin'

In the heart of every kiwi
dwells the place they love to be -
where dreams were born
and jandals worn,
and carefree days of summer haze
brought rest and liberty.

Framed well in pohutukawa
lives this memory of bliss -
when days were long
and limbs still strong,
and on each nose each day arose
the flush of natures kiss.

As the mind turns to the mundane
and the chores that life request -
we see the past
through rosy glass,
and long once more to walk the shore
of the place we love the best.
