Save the children

In a world where food is wasted,
fruit rots on the vine
and obesity is a western epidemic -
children die of starvation.

In a world where water is wasted,
deemed unacceptable because it comes
out of a tap rather than a designer bottle -
children die of thirst.

In a world where parents are ineffectual
and kids don't give a damn -
young orphans become sole providers
for their younger siblings.

In a world where it is better
to own the worse house in the best street
than the best house in the worse street -
children live on rubbish dumps.

In a world where education sets the standard
for a better tomorrow,
and is wasted -
children long to read and write, and never will.

In a world where leisure is paramount
to a persons well being
and pleasure reigns supreme -
children are sold into prostitution.

In a world where war dominants,
black and white fight for justice
and people die for misguided ideals -
children fight to live, then die - alone.

When children are undervalued
the future is desolate;
for so becomes the adult!
